The news we all were waiting for! At last MTOS is released. There is no stable build yet, but nightly builds can be downloaded. Also, code is available via SVN.

Quotes, deserving special focus:

MTOS has every feature in Movable Type 4.0 along with several new minor improvements and bug fixes.
We'll be adding additional paid benefits for people who've paid for commercial licenses for Movable Type, with benefits like improved technical support and custom add-ons such as plugins or themes.
This explains difference between open source and commercial versions.

One thing I'm especially hope for is new styles and themes. Now we can expect improvement in that area, both from community enthusiasts and also from Six Apart.

It's nice to hear that MT is actively developed and is moving forward very fast. But unfortunately there is no new info about problem which bothers many MT users: limited set of default styles and incompatibility between old style archives and Movable Type 4.

According to recent announces Six Apart plans to open source their blog publishing platform Movable Type.

But until yesterday two main issues were not clear for the community:

  1. Updates to MTOS release time line. Initially it was planned for 2007 Q3, but it was clear, that there is some delay.

  2. Comparison of feature set between commercial and open source version.

After numerous requests to clarify the situation there was a comment from Six Apart employee which shed some light on their plans
